Rosin Bags 101

Rosin bags are used in the extraction process to filter rosin from all other unwanted material which provides you with a clean and high quality final product. The most popular rosin bags are made from nylon, polyester, silk, and stainless steel. Through various testing, focusing on levels of blowouts/breakage, yield, and cost, we've concluded that nylon provides the best results in all three categories. When choosing your micron requirement, keep in mind your starting material as it will vary depending on what you are pressing. We recommend you use a 60 or lower micron when working with kief, dry sift or hash, 90 to 120 micron for flower and trim, and 160 or higher micron for shake. Of course, this will vary depending on the level of moisture and quality of your starting material as well. When choosing your bag dimensions, keep in mind the size of your rosin plates, and remember to purchase bags that are slightly smaller, as your product will expand as it is being pressed. Choosing a bag that is too small will restrict yield and quality as it takes longer for your rosin to be pushed away from your hot plates. Other important qualities to look for are food-grade and dye-free bags, which will provide you a contaminant-free product with no discolouration, durable stitch pattern, for higher resistance to pressure, and heat resistant bags, for protection against your rosin plates. Remember, rosin pressing is an art and a science, so make sure you play around with sizes and microns as there will be some variation of quality and yield from strain to strain.
